This should be fairly easy but...
Remember those Chips Ahoy! commercials back in the day that were animated and had that jazzy instrumental piece? What is that song called? It's been bothering me for a bit...I always loved that song when I was younger and danced around when the commercials came on :)
FOUND: Benny Goodman's "Sing Sing Sing!" You guys are quick!
Thank you!!!

Can somebody please tell me what the song is in the intro to this game? I first heard it as a kid in the mid-80's, and I know it has been sampled many, many times. It was also used in Super Adventure Island. Oh, and yes, I know that Action 52 is one of the most amazingly crappy games ever, so there's no need to tell me that, haha.
EDIT: Thanks to those who answered. That was definitely the song I heard as a kid. I just learned that the chant in that song is originally by James Brown. I feel like I should've known, considering how many of his breaks get used all over the place.

a short story and a book

short story:
it was in an anthology i read in middleschool (approx. 1990), by a black female author. so it took place, or was written, in the 1960s. there was a mother and daughter living in the country, possibly on a farm. there was another daughter whose name was dee, but she'd moved to the city and gotten very involved in getting in touch with her african roots, and had a boyfriend into the same, and she changed her name to something in an african language. dee and the boyfriend came home to the mother's house, and i very clearly remember the boyfriend trying to go through "the motions" with the first sister, whose hand was "like a limp fish". the mother didn't understand why dee would change her name, and when dee asked her mother for the quilts the mother had made, the mother said that she'd intended to give them to the first daughter. dee was horrified, saying that her sister would probably put them on the beds. the mother, confused, asked dee what she would do with them, and dee, incredulous, exclaimed "hang them!"
i'm nearly positive it was in a same anthology with toni cade bambara's "raymond's run". if that helps at all.
book:
this was a kids book, about a family of anthropomorphized opossums, i believe, who lived in the trunk of a car (or the whole car. or the car was the entrance to their house like the guy with the plane in "mad max beyond thunderdome"), and one time they went to a mall and interacted with humans, with predictably Madcap Hilarious Results. it's possible too that Lessons Were Learned.
anyone for either?

The book was large, over-sized with a blue cover and a large tree. Basically it was a collection of short stories about the residents of the tree, which I guess was sort of like an apartment for the animals. The stories I remember involved a baby panda being born, some ants participating in a race, and some animals playing video games. Each one was about a different family of animals. it had to be older, maybe from the eighties/late seventies?

I'm thinking of a computer game from the mid-late 90's maybe. It's along the lines of sim city, where you build up a city from scratch. Except this one was set in Ancient Rome (or Greece?). It's separated into 'missions' where you have to complete certain objectives in order to continue. For example, the first one would be that you have to get a population of, say, 500. After you do that, you move onto the next mission and start building a city in a new area, and there's a new objective to complete. You build up the farm areas, the waterways, roads, etc.
I thought it was something like "Caesar" or something like that, but it's not turning up anything. Ideas?

How did you do it?
Were you successful? (I've heard of people going in for a reduction and having it upped in the end)
How long did it take?
How much did it cost you?
If you can't help me, can you refer me somewhere that can?
( More info under here )

Land Contracts?

Hey everyone!
Anyone have experience with land contracts here?
I am trying to sell my house and I have a possible buyer, but he is interested in a land contract, which, I guess, is sort of a rent-to-own situation. From what I understand, he pays me monthly for a set time, say 2-3 years, and acquires equity in my house, but not legal title. Then in 2-3 years, if he cannot obtain a mortgage for the rest of the funds, the property reverts back to me. Is that right?
What protections do I have if he defaults on payments? Is this a scam? Will my bank be unhappy? Any help appreciated.

Travel expenses related to employment

My google-fu is totally failing me, and I have never dealt with employment law.
I have a job interview next week. The potential job requires overnight travel weekly (out-of-town Tuesday a.m. through Thursday p.m., as I understand it). This is an hourly, non-salaried position, in the state of Wisconsin. The information I have at this point is that all travel is in-state, driving, using a fleet vehicle. The potential employer is a non-profit that is affiliated with a local university, but I do not think that employees are actually state employees.
Going into the interview, I would like to have more information regarding what travel expenses an employer has to pay, and what travel expenses an employer often pays.
Do they have to pay for all travel time? Hotels? Meals?
Thanks for any information/links.

It's a series of YA books, I think there were four. I actually have pretty decent memories of them, but I can't for the life of me think of the author or titles.
There is a demon-type guy who flies down from his castle to a village every 7 years for a new bride (it's either every 7 years or he needs 7 total brides). The protagonist is, I believe, a maid/servant to a princess? And she saves the princess when the demon guy comes to take her, so he takes the maid instead. Once they reach the castle, she has to sew new clothes for the old brides, who have all become wraith-type creatures now, but the material she needs to sew the clothes with is made from her emotions, and she has to learn to pull on happier emotions because those make lighter thread that doesn't hurt the wraiths as much.
( under a cut because I'm just rambling details I remember )
ETA: Found: The Darkangel Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce.

"... there is something about the unfathomable night sky that just makes it such a good target for wishes... they go out and never come back"
I have no idea where I read it. I googled it and searched possible books on my shelf, even asked some lit people that might know.
Help me hivemind! It's been driving me crazy!

Rent Credit?

So, we (my husband, myself, our housemate, our daughter, and our house mate's daughter) moved into a home (Washtenaw County Michigan) about 2 weeks ago. It's a great house, and the landlord seems to be pretty cool and understanding, but there are some things going on with the house that are frustrating and we believe we deserve a rent credit for.
The landlord seems pretty agreeable, but we don't know how much we should be asking, nor do we know if all of this stuff is reasonable for us to ask for a credit. He wants to be fair to us, so we want to be fair to him.
The biggest thing is that he was suppose to have a lot of these issues taken care of before we moved in, but he didn't. The whole house was really filthy, so we're trying to clean up all of the messes that the previous tenants left, including things such as: a large amount of spider and cobwebs in one of the bedrooms, a very strong cat urine smell in the basement, a large amount of dust on all surfaces, dirt built up around windows, stains on carpets and walls. We know that there is a certain amount of normal ware and tear on a living space, but this places more or less is like there was nobody here for a year, and they just left their cats in the basement. We want compensation for our time, is this a reasonable request? How much compensation should we ask for? An hourly 'wage' of time spent?
He called a cleaner, and they charge 35$/hour for a 2 person team. But he says "You guys are already making a dent in the mess and you know what you want to happen so I figure you probably want to finish"
He is giving us a credit for the Nature's Maricle used to get rid of the cat smell.
The day after we moved all of our food into the fridge the fridge broke. His handyman came over and threw EVERYTHING away, including things that were not perishable--we had them in there to extend shelf life. Is it reasonable to ask for compensation for those things? We went to the store and priced things out--most of those things were unopened, actually and it came out to be $128.69 worth of groceries. Also, we were without a fridge for a week because he had to buy a new one.
Most recently we are dealing with mold. There was an ice dam in the roof last winter(when the old tenants lived here), and a small leak in our bedroom closet. He came to fix it last week and found that the whole ceiling of the closet had mold in it. They took all of our stuff out of the closet and 'quarantined' off the closet with some plastic there is no door on it--it is a huge walk in closet. I am wondering if actually was safe for us to be living here...he said it is not the 'bad' kind of mold, "even though all kinds are not good, but it's not the bad kind"...that was last Thursday. Yesterday he came and tore a part of the Ceiling out of the closet, which has basically opened it up to the outside...it is not warm here in Michigan in November...and we have to live with this until Friday. Is it reasonable to ask for compensation for this? We are running the heater and responsible for the gas. I would imagine that we are losing a decent deal of heat since the only thing that is blocking it from what is basically the outside is a piece of plastic.
Also, all of HIS stuff is in the garage...why am I paying for that space when it is filled with his stuff? He said he was going to move it...but hasnt yet.
I know the house wouldn't pass an inspection with the mold thing because he is trying to get it all fixed up by the 23rd, when the county inspectors come.
Any information or opinions are appreciated.

I'm trying to remember the title of an old zombie film I saw in class years ago. It was in black and white and set in Hati. The main character was a woman who traveled to Hati to be a nurse or caretaker for a woman who seemed to be in a coma. But really the woman was being controlled as a zombie by the native Hatians. What I remember the most is a scene where the zombie woman is walking down the beach and they show the voodoo doctor dragging a doll made up to look like her.
All I know is that it was not White Zombie. Thanks in advance!

Is it illegal to open someone else's mail? (In Canada, specifically.)
Proxy situation: Roommates A and B are both over the age of 18. Roommate A routinely opens mail which is addressed to Roommate B. Is this an offence?
I've been able to identify a section of the Canada Post Corporation Act which seems to be headed in that direction, but I'm unclear on if it applies to mail that has been delivered, or just mail which is in transit.
I'm not looking to prosecute, just looking to have something I can wave under their nose.

Kind of a strange question ... not so much a "what" as a "why".
Did anyone here see Regis & Kelly this morning? I tuned in maybe halfway through, and was surprised to see both of them wearing poppies. I'm Canadian, and everyone wears them for Remembrance Day here, but I had never seen Americans do so. Did they say anything about that, or did they just wear them without mentioning anything?

There was a game, along the lines of Bop It, that was really popular when I was in elementary school (so like 1996-98). It was a ball with six pegs coming out, each was a different color (I think) and each had a number on it. You'd start the game and it'd tell you which way to turn the ball (by number or color) and you had to do it in a certain time or you'd lose.
Does anyone have any ideas?
